Whether
you are or are not a freeware developer, you can advertise on the Grime Site, a site that supports freeware and in
particular, that related to the Geography, GIS, Imaging, Visualisation, Remote
Sensing and Photogrammetric marketplace. The Grime GIS Site (start at http://www.grime.net/gistools)
is dedicated to the identification of appropriate freeware to translate or
reformat GIS/Remote Sensing/Photogrammetric data into something that is useful
for particular applications in that space.
I
initially developed the site a few years ago for my own benefit but it
has grown to become one of the most navigated independent web sites in the
GIS/RS/Photo space.
As an
indication of how well the Grime Site is ranked in the search engines, try
searching Google with a string of arbitrary GIS related file formats, e.g. ALG
BIL BMP DAT. The Grime Site is usually at the top of the list.
To
date, I have
maintained these pages at no cost to the end user.
My
aim is to continue to provide a free service to those who use it, but I now ask
for sponsorship from organisations for their own file formats and software
tools and for other complimentary formats and freeware tools.
For
a small fee per file format per year, you will be supporting not only your own
software and file formats but the activities of freeware developers that are
supporting your file formats. In return, you can "claim" your own
file formats (strictly one sponsor per format) and you will be provided space
for a 160x160 pixel
logo/banner-ad of your choice adjacent to your nominated format, linked to
whatever page on your website you want (to the download page or somewhere
else?). As an example of what is proposed, have a look at http://www.grime.net/gistools/e-sponsored.htm.
If
you wish, a disclaimer from you (no more than 500 words) can disassociate you
from any 3rd party freeware. This would constitute the first link from your
logo/banner ad, with subsequent links to your own website (or elsewhere) from
there.
Preference
will be given to the owners of the file formats, but a one month grace period
once a "hostile takeover" has been received will determine whether
the "owner" can be identified and wants to claim the right to sponsor their own format or
not.
You
can also sponsor a freeware Software Tool on the http://www.grime.net/gistools
page for a year (renewable), of which half will be sent to the freeware developer
in recognition of their work (if the software tool is yours, then you pay only
the 50%). The proposal here is similar. For each software tool that you
wish to sponsor, you will be provided space for a 160x160
pixel logo/banner-ad of your choice adjacent to your nominated tool on the
Grime GISTools front page.
Please
advise me.
